    o;ok so im a new golfer with a high handicap but also a fairly high swing speed of about 100 and ive barely even started and never had a lesson yet... will a high swing speed be bad with the hybrids? so far in order ive shot a 104, 102, 114 (no lunch), and then 87 the next day after a good lunch and practicing a few swings at the range before my round, and using my three wood instead of a driver... ive only played four rounds so far... i bought a Nike VRS forged sand wedge and an Odyssey two ball ten putter... i still need irons, woods and a driver... i can actually hit irons and wedges fairly straight most of the time... even the fairway woods... but the driver im still really wild with...

      Think about how quickly you want to improve. If you have speed and plan on putting in time to strike shots more consistently more often irons rather than hybrid irons might well be a better choice. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for this video. Comprehensive. I play Eye-2 irons. My takeaway from new irons: we get more holding power with today's irons and balls. Mishits with new clubs have a higher likelihood of going straighter and farther than with old irons. Correct?

    I've been using the HB soft premiere 11 and found it just as good as many milled putters at a fraction of price. It does seem weird to have the "fastback" style head in a mallet section, other than slightly longer alignment lines the cg locations and feel of the putters are very much blade style (toe hangs as well)

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer 19 годин тому

      Thanks for your input Steel. Scotty refers to the Fastback as a 'mid-mallet with the feel of a blade and forgiveness of a mallet' hence the designation.

    Just found this video. It is a fantastic video that speaks to the average golfers. With no disrespect to Neil, I believe the data would be more relevant if the tester could actually swing the 7 iron at 75-80 MPH. This category of HC golfer can only dream to hit their 7 iron to carry 180+ yards. I believe the drop off, carry and spin data would be quite different and may lead to different conclusion. Just my 2 cents.

  • @gcoffey223
    @gcoffey223 5 днів тому

    I ended up trying a sleeve of the ERC softs. Played it all day for more roll out. Couple times I was surprised at the the check up. I understand why it had the highest wedge spin for club golfers. It was definitely longer, and I finally understood the difference involved with a more forgiving ball. That feel, though, was unreal. Played 27 holes over the weekend. Lost 1 ball on a hero shot that was pretty close to getting over that ditch. Great everywhere.

      @philcastle1608 7 днів тому

      I should add: as a rough guide, divide the distance you hit a 6-iron in yards for the swing speed listed in mph. This seems to be a KBS thing. If true, I’d like to see them make this a little clearer.

    The blue x was way to soft throughout the profile. The blue tr is nice for me. If i play it at 46 total length will it be to soft compared to playing it at 45 total length? Would some tipping be required at 46 inches or maybe consider going to the black?

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer 8 днів тому

      Playing it at a longer length isn't going to change the profile Michael, but by going longer you should pick up some speed which might mean you want to look at the Black. A good fitter will help you work through this to understand the gains and drawbacks of either choice. Hope that helps.

    Surprised the Mizuno MCraft didn’t make the cut I hit all of these for several hours and the MCraft 03 (double wide blade) with the heaviest weights earned my business. I previously owned an Odyssey Double Wide White Hot OG with the stroke labs shaft you mentioned, and cannot understand why anyone likes that insert. It feels completely dead off the face and controlling distance was frustrating. May I ask what you didn’t like about Mizuno’s MCraft line?

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer 12 днів тому

      It's absolutely not that we don't like the M-Craft, it's that there are tons of really good putters out there and not all can be winners. In the real world the M-Craft are pretty expensive for what is essentially a very basic putter to create. There's no insert (granted not all golfers like the feel of an insert putter), the head options are quite limited and there's no hosel options to dial any specific model into your stroke. Agreed there are some nice M-Craft shapes, but virtually all top putter brands make great shapes nowadays. Hope that helps explain our thinking.

    • @Saska2oon
      @Saska2oon 12 днів тому

      @@todaysgolfer I’d say that is completely understandable and I appreciate the response. At the end of the day I’m starting to realize my game was suffering from paralysis by technical analysis. Choosing a grip and putter I find confidential and instills confidence is arguably more important than whatever the tour pros are doing or buying into the flavor of the month technical improvements that golf club vendors come up with to sell new clubs. Not trying to downplay technical advancement but I’ve always gamed fairly basic blade putters, so maybe that is why the MCraft resonates with me and felt amazing in comparison

    Tried the Wilson Triad at the beginning of this season after playing the Srixon Z Star XV for the last year or two. There's something about the Wilson ball that just works for me. Great off the tee, feels great with irons and is wonderful on & around the greens. I've used it exclusively this year and don't see myself changing anytime soon. At $34.99 a dozen it's an incredible value. Also, I tend to stray from "norms" and the "usual suspects" brands and like something different. But only IF they work. Guarantee I'm the only guy in my foursome gaming a Wilson ball, and I kinda dig that. Coincidentally, I just picked up a set of Wilson Staff CB irons this year and they too are ridiculously fantastic. Using the ball had nothing to do with moving to them as my iron choice, but it's pretty neat that after demoing lots of irons as I considered a new set AND putting a few different balls in play to find what's right for my game, I wound up in Wilson products for both - because they're just damn good. I guess I'm a Wilson guy? Never saw that coming.

    If you were to use the G20 (introduced in 2012) instead of the G10 (intro 2007) I think that the results would have shown very little difference. G20 shape is much different than the g10 and I suspect much better MOI. I just did my own test yesterday, taking my old G20 to the range VS several of my newer drivers and the G20 in going back into my bag. I used a Swing Caddie SC200 to monitor carry/smash/swing speed and my G20 was giving me 2-5 yards more carry and more consistently hit down the middle.

    What irons/hybrids would you recommend for ultra high handicapper (33) with very high swing speeds. Fats, thins, tops, big slice, cant close club face, lessons and countless drills arent working. Swing goes back to old swing even after 1000's of reps. I'm actually getting worse with more practice. I have game improvement clubs. When i do strike them well i have no problem sticking greens. My spin and launch angle is a bit too high and landing angle on the top end of acceptable with my clubs. In the end distance makes no difference to me. I want to hit the ball im play and lower my scores. Is there a magic club? I dont care at all about how it looks. Im oretty giod with 8 iron thru gap wedge and two putt a lot. Short game is good but anything 7 iron and over is just out of control in all ways.

      There isn't a magic club out there Rob, sorry. But if you have plenty of speed, you don't need to worry about playing strong or standard lofts you certainly don't need HL models. I still play one in 2024 and don't really give away anything compared to the new drivers. I had a M4 that was slightly longer but not quite as easy to find the fairway with.I will play it until I find something thats really much better which has happened yet.

    Can you explain the shot area results in more detail please? It's not as if pro's can't consistently put tour balls on a dime, despite some of them getting a bad result here. Doesn't make much sense to me.

    • @R6shark214
      @R6shark214 Місяць тому

      He’s talking about the area of dispersion. Saying ball “A” is landing within an area of “X”square yards consistently. They’re just showing that under these conditions ball “A” is landing consistently within this area. We all know in real world conditions wind and minor variations in ball striking will effect dispersion but these numbers are under laboratory conditions. Hope this helps…🤷🏼‍♂️

      @@R6shark214 Thanks, still though the Pro V1 having a 21 Sq yd area with PW doesn't add up, with what I would expect is a precise robot swing. That's massive.

    • @todaysgolfer
      @todaysgolfer 27 днів тому

      The shot area is the difference between the longest to shortest shot multiplied by the furthest left to the furthest right. There's a comment below saying that 21 sq yds is huge, it really isn't that big when you realise that would be a 3.5 yard drop of from longest to shortest and a 6 yard left to right dispersion. It's important to understand too that not all tour balls are made on the same lines that make the balls we consumers buy. Very often tour balls are made on separate lines. Hope that helps.

    Their 211 Xcor2’s seem like a great bargain. MyGolfSpy rates them highly too. I’m torn between these & the Sub70 699v2. 😑 (I shoot around 90)

    If I’m a mid handicapper that’s back on the market for clubs ( waiting to hear if TM is going to warranty my caved face p790s ) that’s looking at clubs is it a bad idea to be looking at say the qi10 irons / hybrid set. I do have a natural miss to the right that is being slowly worked out with lesson and play rough 2-3 times a month.

    Something I find really helpful is to use a 1-2-3-4 count for the driver. The backswing starts on the 1, the contact happens on the 4. The count for irons is 1-2-3. Chip shots are 1-2 (or "tick-tock").
